Air Conditioning split system coil cleaning: Tip number 2

It is very important to clean your filters in any air conditioning system, the air filters are located in the indoor unit generally behind the front facia cover, or slide out in Room Air Conditioner (Box style), clean filters will make your air conditioner operate more efficiently, better cooling effect and more energy efficient, using less power to cool the area,

Again dirty or blocked filters will reduce the airflow reducing the capacity of the AC unit and in extreme cases will affect the components of the system which may cause failure,

Dirty filters will also void your manufacturer’s warranty,

Depending on the usage and environment further cleaning of the indoor and outdoor coils and fans will be required, this can be performed by a qualified tradesperson,

The indoor unit not only collects dirt but can also accumulate mold  which will cause the unit to smell, the fan will also accumulate mold and dirt making the air flow also inefficient,

Bag cleans are now common which include the removal of the front covers and exposing the indoor coil and fan barrel, these are sprayed with a coil cleaning chemical and then rinsed off with high-pressure water, it is important to remove all of the chemicals,

Room Air Conditioners (Box Style) will require the chassis to be removed from the case, taken outdoors, and also chemically cleaning the indoor/ outdoor coils and fan blades,

A sanitizer can also be sprayed after chemical cleaning which will reduce the growth of mold,

The outdoor condenser coil should also be cleaned on regular basis.
